Forgive me if this question is already answered, or is just so obvious it doesn't need stating, but is the winter squash halved? chopped? peeled? canned? frozen?

Amazing!! I used some long island cheese squash that I grew this year - it cooks up soft so it was perfect for this stew. We really loved it - definitely will be in the fall/winter rotation!
