I think I am going to have to try the Chilli Tofu recipe even though my husband says he doesn’t like Tofu, I think he wouldn’t really know what is in the meal until I tell him. The cabbage recipe also sounds like another meal we would enjoy. Thank you for the recipes and a great read.

Yes give it a go! I think he’s enjoy it. The extra step of frying the cornstarch/cornflour dusted tofu gives its a great texture. Let me know how you go 😂

I think this is one of my favourite issues of your Substack yet — Peddler is all the things you describe. You say: “It gave me the courage to push the boundaries…” that’s exactly how I felt as a contributor to Peddler. You gave me courage, while encouraging me to see that I had something to offer. Before I contributed, I was a fan. I remember reading about the grandpa whose legacy was the pesto he made (I feel like it was the Childhood issue…) — this story was such a good reminder of how food connects us and, how infinite it is. We carry it with us and it shapes so much of human existence. Even though Peddler is on hiatus, your own work continues to weave all of these threads — history, family, connections, food, necessity which leads to invention — for us to enjoy.

Thank you Kris. It makes me so happy to know that Peddler affected your life so profoundly too. I always valued your contributions and learnt so much about Ukrainian/Canadian culture through you. Thank you for being a part of it. And yes the story you are thinking of is called BORIS by Sharon Brenner. I loved that story too. The photos are so dreamy. Such a simply story, with deep impact.

Peddlar sounds amazing, you should definitely think about bringing it back. Keep doing what you are doing x

Every time I fry tofu, it sticks to the pan so the crispy outer cornflour layer comes off! Any advice on what I'm doing wrong? The oil seems like the right amount...am I turning the cubes too soon/late?
